Leader Bergslagen is one of more than 2.000 Local Action Groups around Europe. Therefor, if you come from a European country, you are likely to find lots of information about Leader in general and the Leader method in particular in your own country and in your own language.
Leader Bergslagen is situated some 200 km west from Stockholm. It is a rather wide area, covering more than 10 municipalities and more than 80.000 inhabitants.
Our main characteristics are woodlands and lots of lakes and rivers. Our history goes back several hundred years, to the time when industrialisation began in Sweden. Bergslagen was the prime center of the entire mining industry. Rich, powerful families began organising mining business and metal industries. There is a saying nowadays, that Bergslagen made Sweden!
Today, most large industries in our area are part of global businesses. Still, lots of persons work with metal processing in some way, even if the mining itself has more or less disappeared since the late 1960's.
The vision for Leader Bergslagen is "Together we make Bergslagen a better place for life, work and visits". In what way can Bergslagen become better? That, my friend, is up to you!
The projects we support should aim towards the vision. To find funding for your project you should work together with other parties, either voluntary organisations, private businesses or the common sector. The project has to contain something new either when it comes to ways of work or what to work with. Finally, and maybe most important, the project should aim to initiate good processes around our area, leading towards better visits, better quality of life or better opportunities for business and work.
